CONSTRUCTION WAS OFFICIALLY KICKED OFF FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL AND NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTER CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. REPORTER RACHEL JOHNSON HAS THE STORY.>>Reporter: THIS DAY YEARS IN THE MAKING HAS FINALLY ARRIVED. CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN ON THE BRAINERD HIGH SCHOOL AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.>>THIS IS A PROJECT WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR FOR A YEAR AND A HALF.>>Reporter: THE CONSTRUCTION IS PART OF BLUEPRINT 181, A DISTRICT-WIDE PROJECT THAT IS CONSTRUCTING OR REMODELING SCHOOLS ACROSS THE DISTRICT AND PASSED A REFERENDUM VOTE IN 2018.>>THE COMMUNITY HAS OVERWHELMING SUPPORTED THE REFERENDUM. NOW WE’RE INTO THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS. >>Reporter: THE REFERENDUM WAS COMPRISED OF THREE MEASURES. THE FIRST TWO IMPROVE SCHOOL FACILITIES AND THE THIRD APPROVE FUNDING FOR A PERFORMING ARTS CENTER. >>WE ARE GOING TO BE BRINGING IN NATIONAL AND REGIONAL MUSICIANS TO BE HOUSED HERE IN OUR 1200-SEAT PROJECT.>>Reporter: THE CONSTRUCTION WAS NEEDED TO UPDATE LEARNING AND ATHLETIC FACILITIES AND, ABOVE ALL, TO REDESIGN THE SCHOOL SO ALL STUDENTS ARE UNDER ONE ROOF. >>EVERYONE WILL BE UNDER ONE ROOF AND STAY IN THE NORTH CAMPUS. ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS WILL BE RIGHT HERE FROM THIS POINT ON.>>Reporter: CONSTRUCTION BEGAN TWO WEEKS AGO AT THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER. IF EVERYTHING GOES AS PLANNED, THE WHOLE PROJECT SHOULD TAKE AROUND THREE YEARS TO COMPLETE.>>THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT IS A PRETTY INVOLVED PROJECT. OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE IS ENSURING THAT ALL THE OCCUPANTS, WHETHER IT’S STAFF OR STUDENTS, THE ENTIRE PROJECT IS DONE SAFELY FOR THEM.>>Reporter: ACCORDING TO ORGANIZERS, THE SCHOOL RENOVATIONS AND THE NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTER WILL NOT ONLY BENEFIT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, BUT THE GREATER BRAINERD COMMUNITY AS WELL.>>IT WILL BE REALLY FUN FOR OUR AREA AND REALLY POSITIVE FOR OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITY TOO.
